diary doodle: practice /comm attempt

Hello.

I missed a diary entry in my hobonichi so I did some attempt at doodling chars for a commission. I wanted to practice drawing them and this..kinda happened.

I have some difficulty with their robes so I thought of attempting to practice drawing them first before finally doing the commission and above is…more or less a…satisfactory result? I still have to get a good grasp on their hairstyle and facial features. They look so wonky here.

I had fun with drawing and colouring them even though I’m not familiar with the series or characters, lol.

I was binge watching King of the Hill eps while drawing.

They are Hua Cheng and Xie Lian, respectively from Heaven Official’s Blessing / Tian Guan Ci Fu.

And yes, I apologise for the name mistakes on the doodle, ORZ.

Lately, I’ve been doing more traditional stuff, watercolouring on my journal entries in my Hobonichi notebook. It’s been helping me cope with life struggles lately.

I strongly recommend a Hobonichi planner /notebook to anyone who wants to journal, though. I know it’s expensive, 50-100 USD but it’s so worth it. It took me 3 years to bite the bullet and purchase my first ever one for this year, lol. I’ve always wanted to have one but my frugal ass hesitated buying a planner of that friggin price.

It’s reasonable I guess(?) for being in that price range as their paper is Tomoe River paper which is well known in the stationery and fountain pen world as one of the highest quality papers out there that can withstand any fountain pen ink and even watercolours despite its bible paper thinness. (and no bleedthrough!)

But I ain’t getting any younger and I thought that journaling esp during the pandemic could help me cope with the situation and my everyday struggles. I thought, hey maybe since I spent friggin’ 100 USD for a planner, I have to jot down or draw stuff everyday in there so the money I spent on that isn’t wasted and I won’t end up super guilty buying it, lol.

Obviously most entries are very personal and private so I can’t post them here but entries with fanart and some drawings like the one above will be posted.

(The words I wrote above that drawing was ‘High Libido” lol cuz I noticed I had a very high sexual drive that day. )

So far, I’ve enjoyed writing and drawing on it. I’ve already put aside my money for the hobonichi 2022 planner. I’m so excited for their lineup this September >v<.

diary doodles: mirror jou and canon jou

Some watercolour doodles on my hobonichi diary. I thought of filling the blank pages of it with some mirror vs canon concepts. ^_^

I was thinking of scanning, digitally colouring and enhancing them since this is….not presentable to say the least, gah. The hobonichi’s papers are very thin. (bible paper thin as some would say). Despite the tomoe river paper being a high quality paper that can withstand a variety of fountain inks and watercolours, it wrinkles when you watercolour on it.

Oh, and you can see some ink on the background since I’ve written stuff on the pages before and after them.

Ah well….as long as the theme of the comic strip is clear enough for the audience to see, I guess. I don’t want to have to repeat drawing and colouring it, tbh.

Watercolour Practice : Red Panda

I forgot to post this, lol.

This was weeks ago and just referenced google images for this red panda drawings.

Sorry that I was pretty idle on social media this week. It’s mainly because I’m recovering from a burnout irl (plus an eating disorder) , gah.

I’ll be in normal mode next week.. For the remaining days of this week though , I’ll just rest a bit and post stuff here if I have any other thing to post.

I think I’ll also be making some mirror pup comics (FUOH) next week aside from finishing commissions.

Commission 17

Hello.

This week was quite busy, ORZ.

At least I managed to get this commission done for @Nightfest.Ink. ^__^

I wanna write more but I’m so beat. (Maybe I could blog more and post these on Tumblr and twitter tomorrow…)

Commission WIP

I had two disturbing nightmares last night. The first one was the most disturbing as it involved someone I knew at uni who was…quite a creep(quite stalker-ish) towards me. I don’t want to go into detail with the nightmare I had last night because of how disgusting it was but to sum it up, this creep in that dream was 10x more of a pig than he was irl.

I know it sounds petty perhaps to some I guess but have you ever had a nightmare so unsettling it sticks with you throughout the entire day? Your day is ruined all because of a nightmare.

I know it’s just a dream and not something real but his face and his “threats” kept appearing in my thoughts that they caused me to have so much anxiety and paranoia throughout the day. It was terribly difficult to focus.

Sigh.. the blame of course goes to myself, gah. Recently, I’ve been listening/watching to so many true crime documentaries while drawing and doing other tasks that it probably seeped its way into my dreams.

‘Guess I’ll have to listen/watch more wholesome stuff atm.

Anywho, here is a WIP of another commission I’ve been working on. 😀

AUU random thought

Today’s been very exhausting, gah.

Anyway, I just had a random thought that’s related to the AUU. I’ve been looking for some time to draw chapter 7 of the AUU amongst the remaining commissions and illustrations and while scheduling on my planner, I thought of perhaps changing the Katakana of Mariku’s name?

It’s late and my antidepressants are kicking in so I apologise if I don’t make sense (which is all the time anyway lol) because of drowsiness but I remember the note I put in chapter 5 in regards to Mariku’s name in katakana which is マリクウ or in romaji, Marikuu. It’s pronunciation would be Ma-ri-Koo. It sounded endearing to me last year but thinking about it now, it sounds weird, haha.

Perhaps it would be better if his name in katakana would be マリック or Marikku in Romaji?

so it would sound like Ma-ri-Ku with a hard K. I think that sounds better.

Hmmm….

ah well. I don’t think I’d be writing his name in Kana for future chapters anyway, lol. (Ah wait, there is one in chapter 8 ORZ)

Welp, I gotta sleep. Goodnight. ❤

watercolour practice: Shirokuma’s Sunflowers

Kinda’ failed with this one, or more precisely, experimented the heck out of it by dabbing different colours on everything, lol.

I think I should have added more layers to the sunflower painting since they lack the saturation I want.

Watercolour Sketch: Panda

Hello.

I’ve recently got my second vaccine shot so I’ve been groggy for the past day, ORZ. ‘Couple that with the new antidepressants I was prescribed for.

The other night, I was fixing my messy room and as I was arranging the art tools on the shelves beside my desk, it dawned on me that I haven’t done any traditional work for almost a year. So yesterday I thought of doing some traditional “warm up” doodle since it was the weekend and I wanted to do something relaxing.

I wanted to paint something easy and light so I opted for monochromatic (greyscale) painting using a small dropper bottle of black indian ink.

The problem with making watercolour art is the set-up, lol. It’s so time-consuming and troublesome with having to reach for your brushes, palette, paper towel, paints and jars. Compare that to digital art with just opening a program on your computer and plugging in your tablet to draw.

I did some panda studies, referencing google images of them. I should put my degree to good use and practice drawing and painting animals because I friggin’ suck at them, haha.

Reminder to self: Remember to draw at a good angle so the artwork won’t be deformed when you look at it in full view, gah. I always keep forgetting that.

So in the picture of the palette above, it’s just all about dilution in each well of the palette. The more water you add to the indian ink, the lighter the wash is. It’s not obvious because of it’s black colour but each well has a different amount of water added to it.

More water = lighter colour; Less water = darker colour.

Tools used:

  • Holbein Saunders Waterford White Watercolour Paper (F2 size)
  • Dr. Ph Martin’s Black Star Waterproof Indian Ink (MATTE)
  • Sakura Gelly Roll (white)
  • Tombow Monograph one 0.5 Mechanical pencil – HB

I really recommend Dr. Ph Martin’s Black Star Matte Indian ink though because of its versatility and nice finish. I plan on using it for future traditional monochromatic (b/w) art or comics. 😀
